First Day of School: pics and more!

Today was our FIRST day of school for the 2011-12 school year. It's always exciting the first day, and I wish I could somehow unleash that excitement throughout the year, as the days get longer and longer.

(notice the snakes, Millie has a fascination with snakes...she must get that from her dad!)
Jellyfish has to get up at 8am during the school week, and has a list of things to do before 9am. There is punishment for anything that's not done before 9am (I'm a mean mom!). Our day is pretty busy, and I find myself switching between the kids...trying to keep them both on track. Jellyfish works well on his own; Millie, on the other hand, not so much...
Our preschool work began with the introduction of Letter A: big and small. We call it mommy A and baby a, for now. My goal is for her to realize there are two a's, and recognize certain words and sounds that go along with it. Today, we talked about alligator and apple. She played the apple tree game and laced some apples and a's.

Jellyfish was even excited about Spelling today. We are doing Poetry along with Spelling this year, which we didn't do last year. We started a Science museum, learned about Pentecost (Acts 2), and started a new Spanish program. He was MOST excited about his Mystery of History (volume II). It's great when you hear things like..."Wow, Mom, I didn't know that" and "I learned something new"! Those phrases make a homeschool mom's heart go pitter-patter.
Jellyfish helped her out with her numbers and a few other things from time to time. I'm going to try to post more about our toddler activities toward the end of the week.
This is Jellyfish doing his Rosetta Stone Spanish! He is so excited...he didn't want to stop!

I hope your first day is as exciting as ours!
