Making Changes: Part 1

No matter how much you plan, pray, and organize, change takes place constantly when you're homeschooling. There's comes a point where you have to realize things are not working as they should, and admit CHANGE is necessary.

We started our year in August with this schedule. We went from one subject to the next with a few breaks in between, all week long. We did our special classes (computer, art, Spanish, etc.) at the end of the day. It was just becoming monotonous, long, and there was so much to get in, it was overwhelming. When it starts to feel this way, it's time to make some changes.

Our changes began with our schedule. We switched to a four day week (Monday through Thursday). Friday will be totally devoted to our special classes, which is like a fun day for Jellyfish, because he loves those classes. We still do our spelling test on Fridays, but other than that, it's a "fun" day.

The four day week may not be for everybody, but it works for us. If your days seem long, and you feel overwhelmed, chances are your kids feel that way too. Take a break from the norm, change some things, and throw in a few surprises. It may be a little more work for mom, but it might be just what you need.

Click to see our new schedule. The next phase of our changes involves our schoolroom. Check back later this week for the details!
